The Sunday Wrap

gn=“left”>Proclamations of Donovan McNabb’s demise have been greatly exaggerated…as long as he plays against the Lions for the remainder of the season. McNabb slaughtered a Lions defense that showed glimpses of promise through the first couple of seasons.

McNabb’s big day highlighted a Week 3 that saw Tom Brady and the Patriots drop another 38 special; Brett Favre continued his climb back to the elite of fantasy football quarterbacks; the top three running backs in fantasy football from a season ago killing more owners; and Rex Grossman showed exactly why he may not be fit to be on the Chicago Bears’ roster, let alone any fantasy football ones.

The Sunday Wrap

The 2006 season turned into Peyton Manning’s championship chase. Now, that it’s over we move onto to the next great chase in sports. No, not Tom Brady’s pursuit of ring number four.Â It’s time to sit back and bathe in Randy Moss’s run to the Super Bowl. Moss has never played in the Bowl, losing two NFC championship games in devastasting fashion.

After Sunday’s Week 1 performance and his post game comments in which he basically told the public to stay away from those “game shows”, he proved that he still has something in the tank. When Moss is into it and fired up, few people are as compelling in the NFL.

Moss’s impressive Patriots debut helped usher in the beginning of the 2007 season. The redemption of Chris Brown (remember him?) took place in Jacksonville; an important injury helped stifle the Rams offense in St. Louis; and Donovan McNabb showed why preseason means very little at the end of the day. Redskins vs. Dolphins

REDSKINS — Color me crazy, but I think Clinton Portis makes for one of the safer starts this weekend at running back. He strikes me as nearly a gurantee for a touchdown in this game. Iâ€™m not as confident for the rest of the team. Jason Campbell neuters the value of Santana Moss, although Chris Cooley is probably better off.

DOLPHINS — Cam Cameron recently gave a vote of confidence to Ronnie Brown, which is good news after the wavering that happened earlier in the preseason. Of course youâ€™ll start him, so it doesnâ€™t matter what I say. The rest of the offense needs to show what they can offer before you trust them in your starting line up. This includes Chris Chambers, who was perhaps the most infuriating fantasy performer last season.

SNEAKY START — Sorry, but I really donâ€™t see one in this game. Iâ€™m sure some third string fullback will score a touchdown, but I wouldnâ€™t make that big of a risk in this game.

Bills vs. Broncos

BILLS — There has been absolutely no indication that Marshawn Lynch will be a quality starter this season. Unfortunately, if you drafted him, you probably didnâ€™t take him as a backup. If you have better options, you can bench him, but you wonâ€™t be alone in starting him. Lee Evans remains a must-start, as he can beat just about any corner in the league.

BRONCOS — And here begins the adventure that is Travis Henry. The former Titan is on so many sleeper lists, that he actually stopped being a sleeper before August hit. But thatâ€™s okay, because the Bills defense isnâ€™t great at stopping the run anyway. Go ahead and start the guy before Shanny benches him. Javon Walker is a start, and Jay Cutler makes for a weak option at quarterback.

SNEAKY START — If you were like me, you waited until the late draft stages to take a tight end. If you were like me, Tony Scheffler was your pick a couple times. He may score a big zero, but thereâ€™s a 50% chance that he scores a touchdown and keeps pace, or outscores, your oppoentâ€™s tight end. And your opponent probably wasted a seventh rounder on his guy. And then you can laugh and laugh.

Browns vs. Steelers

BROWNS — I was almost tempted to bring out my banhammer statement for the Browns, but thatâ€™s probably being a tad harsh. Kellen Winslow is startable until further notification. Even Braylon Edwards is probably a must start for most owners. (If you start three) That doesnâ€™t mean I have the most confidence in him in this bad match up, but heâ€™s being drafted as a weak second or strong third option.

STEELERS — I will come out and admit Iâ€™m pretty high on the Steelers offense as a whole. Saying that, it shouldnâ€™t surprise you when I find four or five starts from the group. Willie Parker is an obvious one, and Hines Ward will probably be started in most leagues (Whatever). I will argue that Ben Roethlisberger is being undervalued this season, and stands to toss a couple touchdowns in this contest. Even Heath Miller should get into the action.

SNEAKY START — As the preseason has moved along, Iâ€™ve become more and more enamored with Santonio Holmes. The second year wide out is moving past Ward, and to me, one of the most intriguing breakout candidates of the year. If the Steelers do open up the offense as they have hinted they will, he becomes a strong second fantasy option.

Texans vs. Chiefs

TEXANS — Iâ€™m not sure Iâ€™ve ever witnessed a fantasy player in a situation like Matt Schaub before. Some people are convinced he will become a solid fantasy backup and happily take him as such. Others are just as convinced he has absolute no value at all. And hereâ€™s whatâ€™s especially unique: Those two groups have absolutely no animosity. Think about it, you might think weâ€™re dumbasses for being down on Larry Johnson if youâ€™re high on him. If youâ€™re high on Matt Schaub, you probably donâ€™t care if others are down on him. I just find this interesting. Oh, and start Andre Johnson.

CHIEFS — Believe it or not, I actually think starting Johnson this week would be a wise move. That doesnâ€™t mean we think Johnson will have a good season at all. But itâ€™s the Texans, and if he canâ€™t get 90 yards and a score, then things may be worse than I expected. Damon Huard is going to get the nod, which doesnâ€™t completely destroy the value of Tony Gonzalez, but it doesnâ€™t really help matters.

SNEAKY START — Ahman Green might very well be worth a nod. I donâ€™t really know what to expect from that offense, but there will be some yards to go around. Dwayne Bowe, on the other side of the ball, is my deep sleeper at wide out this season, and Iâ€™ll be watching him very closely. Heâ€™s not worth a start, but if he has a good game, I will still say â€œI told you so.â€ Clearly, either way, I come out smelling like roses.

Packers vs. Eagles

PACKERS — The good news is that Donald Driver should be good to go for this game. The bad news is that the Eagles pass defense has, historically, been a quality group that has stopped the Green Bay passing attack. Since 2003, Brett Favreâ€™s highest yardage day against Philadelphia was 205 yards. Needless to say, this isnâ€™t a week to go Packer crazy. I would still give Driver the benefit of the doubt, though.

EAGLES — While Favre has struggled against the Eagles, Donovan McNabb has excelled against the Packers. In his last three games against Green Bay, McNabb has thrown at least two touchdowns each time. I just mention this because some might still be worried about starting McNabb without knowing for sure heâ€™s back from the injury. I donâ€™t think it matters if he is. You donâ€™t need me to tell you to start Brian Westbrook, but Reggie Brown should get a touchdown.

SNEAKY STARTS — Iâ€™ve got two for you owners that are scrambling due to injury. First, for the Packers, Brandon Jackson should be very much involved in the offensive gameplan. If anything goes right for Green Bay, it should be after he touches the ball. On the other side, Kevin Curtis could very well have more catches and gain more yards than Brown. The touchdown is less likely, though still definitely possible.

Saints vs. Colts

Hey guys. If you’re wondering where our weekly position rankings are, don’t worry, we are writing those for Rotorob.com. You can go over there and filter by football content. Our week one quarterback rankings are up and running back and wide out rankings will be up either later tonight or tomorrow (Thursday) before game time. (By the way…it’s almost game time!)

Over here, we’re going to look at the games a bit more closely. So, first up, Colts and Saints.

SAINTS — We all know how three Saints came out of nowhere to post amazing 2006 campaigns. Those three, Drew Brees, Deuce McAllister, and Marques Colston are all back for another season of good times. Let’s get the easy part out of the way. Brees is an every week starter until further notice. The same can be said of Colston, even if he isn’t tight end eligible anymore. So sad. The tough call for me is whether McAllister is still a starter. I think, for now, he is. That could change if Bush gets 15–20 carries a game, but I don’t see that happening quite yet.

COLTS — Well, there’s Peyton Manning. And there’s Marvin Harrison. They are alright, I guess. And yes, Joseph Addai is an every week starter. And Reggie Wayne should be better than Harrison. Ugh. I’m putting Derek in charge of Colts games from now on.

SNEAKY STARTS - As often happens with such amazing offensive squads, the sneaky starts are few and far between. Devery Henderson might be an option at wide out, but don’t go crazy and bench a better option. And, no, don’t start Anthony Gonzalez.
