The deck is stacked against Larry Johnson entering the 2007 season. He enters the season with a new quarterback, changes on the offensive line and perhaps the most abusive coach to running backs in the NFL. By the way, he’s also coming off of the most carries in a season. His 416 carries toppled the league and easily catapults him over the dreaded 370 carry mark but we’ll have more on that down the road.
Now Johnson is really tempting fate by stating his desire to holdout. He says he’s “prepared” for a long battle. As a part of this contract dispute, Johnson aims for a contract in between the guarantees of LaDainian Tomlinson ($21 million) and Peyton Manning ($35 million). Larry Johnson owners…be afraid, be very afraid. Anyone who has produced big numbers for just two years and is asking for money comparable to two of the league’s biggest names is clearly out of his mind.
