Not to alarm anyone, but the 2006 NFL season is about eight days away. The hits, the runs, the regrettable announcing duos. Anyway, next week, Derek and I will start our “Who to start/bench” shows. This week, however, we talk sleepers and busts for anyone who might still have a draft upcoming.
Till next time.
One of the more underrated half backs over the last three seasons has been Texan’s runner Domanick Davis. In 2003, as a rookie, he ran for almost 1000 yards, added another 200 receiving yards, and crossed the goal line eight times…in 10 games. Not bad for a third rounder on a infant organization.
The next year, Davis started 15 games and amassed over 1,700 total yards of offense to go along with 14 TD’s. Davis was both a good yardage and TD back. While many slept on him, others were putting him in as a top 10 fantasy back. Last year, injuries limited Davis to 11 games and worse, only 230 carries. The numbers remained topnotch, as he had over 100 total yards in eight of those contests.
It has been a sad day in Philadelphia. The Eagles released wide receiver Todd Pinkston and quarterback Koy Detmer. Eagles fans have been clamoring for those two moves since the 2003 NFC Championship. For those of you who need a refresher on Todd Pinkston’s credentials, click here.
The safety that Pinkston dodged in the that video was Ryan Clark. You may remember Clark from his run-in with LaDainian Tomlinson last season.

The careers of great quarterbacks often die hard. Unitas. Young. Marino. Now, Brett Favre is slated to join this list barring an amazing turn of fortunes. Favre enters his 16th and perhaps final season.
Favre’s ability has slowly eroded over the past three seasons. However, with a lack of running game and a poor offensive line in Green Bay, Favre’s declining skills are on further display. Once, the three-time NFL MVP could dazzle with a strong right arm, guts and sheer will. Now, his often times risky decision making is constantly exposed. Yet, what does this mean to you, the fantasy football owner?
Favre’s days as a constant fantasy football starter are gone. Father time constantly pays a vicious and cruel visit to NFL players. The quarterback position is no exception. However, as Favre entered his mid-30s, he still played at a reasonably high level. During 2003 and 2004, Favre showed that he had gas left in the tank. As the 2005 season developed, the worm turned. As all of your definitely know by now, Donté Stallworth was traded from the Saints to the Eagles yesterday. Let’s take a look at what this means for fantasy owners.
Donté Stallworth — Stallworth has been one of the bigger enigmas at the wide receiver spot so far in his career. His eight TD’s as a rookie had a number of people excited about his potential. Four years later and he still hasn’t even matched that output in terms of crossing the goal line. In 2005 Stallworth did catch 70 passes for 945 yards (Both career highs), but it didn’t feel like a breakout campaign. Now in Philly, Stallworth again is teammates with a strong-armed quarterback who can avoid the pass rush and extend plays. Of course, Donovan McNabb has been somewhat more successful at it than Aaron Brooks.
Part one of the Carson Palmer comeback was a success.
Thankfully, the Chargers figured out that A.J. Feeley cannot play quarterback. By the way, if he is still dating this, he has nothing to complain about.
Terrell Owens puts on his pants one leg at a time, just like you. Apparently, he oversleeps and misses important meetings as well.
Donovan McNabb has a new slightly above average receiver to join the rest of his slightly above average receivers.
Andy and I have always said, if you need a quarterback sign Jeff George. Ok, perhaps not.
Speaking of quarterbacks, Billy Volek may be visiting the unemployment line very soon.

I hate the tight end position. That may not be what a fantasy football writer should say, but I don’t want to mislead my readers. Fantasy owners invariably reach for their TE’s. Antonio Gates will be taken early in the third round. Jeremy Shockey and Tony Gonzalez will be gone by round five. Even though a great season from them is about what Lee Evans did last season, owners constantly take the bait.
So I’m here to tell you to wait. Watch the top guys go too soon. Watch the marginal starters be picked up in desperation. A player who could very well be the top receiving threat in New England could be on the board for you in the 9th, 10th, or 11th rounds.

Marc Bulger of the St. Louis Rams is one of the biggest gambles at the quarterback position in fantasy football for 2006. Bulger over the past few seasons has thrived at times under the playcalling of ex-head coach Mike Martz. Bulger’s biggest problem has remained staying healthy.
Bulger has not played a complete 16 game season as quarterback of the Rams. The sixth round pick out of West Virginia has been exposed by Mike Martz’s high risk, high reward style of playcalling which often times hung Bulger out to dry due to a lack of protection.

Hey guys. Sorry for the lack of updates over the weekend. Things got hectic and I found myself without any free time. But the reward for the wait is our final cheat sheet, featuring quarterbacks! So now all of our cheat sheets are out in customizable form.
We’ll have more updates throughout the day as we get back on track, but I thought this would be a nice start.
